Hi,

I have just rejoined the project and found the same ini file problem that made me chrunch elsewhere before.

It has indeed existed for a very long time.

I will soon jump ship again as I like to lock and load the box and then leave it to do its work.

I plan my soon dispersal to another project after completing the work load I have on this project.

No new work is now allowed.

Hi All,

I crunch on one box for C&H.

It is dual core and totally dedicated to only C&H.

I ask why all my tasks always run at "high priority"?

I can meet the deadlines with no problem.

With regards to all crunchers

p.s. Who is "Ben Simmons" that appeared at the bottom of my last mail?

Have I been hacked your end? I will stop crunching unil I know.

Hi All,

I now have two available boxes for crunching.
This is after detaching from MWas. They do not like old boxes helping them!

Can anyone please tell me the lowest spec possible for a box to crunch a success on a task for C@H within the deadline time?

Thanks in advance

Recently, when I am downloading new work, I see in the Message box errors. For example,

25/10/2009 18:01:19 Cosmology@Home [error] File params_100909_123259_3.ini has wrong size: expected 1911, got 0
25/10/2009 18:01:19 Cosmology@Home [error] File params_102409_094936_1.ini has wrong size: expected 1911, got 0

25/10/2009 18:03:30 Cosmology@Home [error] File params_102409_094936_1.ini has wrong size: expected 1911, got 0

This I would not object to if the download continued and the pc received new correct work.

However, after such an error most screens go white with no information and I am forced to reboot to obtain the error message. I then abort the rogue transfer file.

This is proving a tad annoying.

I do not think it is my end as Einstein@home is running perfectly.

Any advice or guidance gratefully received.

Thanks

Thanks for that. I did as you suggested and that stopped the incessant polling.

New tasks, in some cases, are very similar but once again just applied your fix on the rogues.

I have several new Cosmology tasks that have touched my box but have not completed. They are shown as download pending and keep polling for completion without success.

My other project on this box is working fine.

Memory is shared 50/50 on a dual core. Up to now the project has been running fine, the only difference being the recent upgrade to Boinc.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

My lowest spec machine is this one: http://cosmologyathome.org/show_host_detail.php?hostid=132. A Pentium III 800 with a whopping 128MB RAM. It runs the Cosmology work units if needed, but when it needs to switch with other projects the machine spends a lot of time thrashing. I have \"Leave applications in memory while suspended\" set to Yes to avoid losing fragments of work between checkpoints.

@ashj: Is it necessary to log off?

Hi Guy,

When my box was crunching for Einstein@H, wu\'s of the same legth seemed to take longer when the box was left logged on. I did not investigate this in any detail, it was just an impression I had which could well be wrong.

Just a mention that my oldest and lowest spec box - a plent lll with only 256 ram, is crunching for C@H with only 1 (so far) detectable problem.

It spends most of its time logged off with Boinc running as a service.

The only prob so far is logging on when a wu is close to finish. Memory gets short and a new wu kicks in.

This is obviously easily avoided by logging in after the estimated completion time.

It has even occassionally managed to complete 2 wu in a day.

Hope that info is of help.

Since recently starting Cosmology, I have had to suspend a wu that was \"waiting for memory\".
The other task behind it is now running normally. It looks like I have a a config problem. Below is a copy of the message obtained at a fresh reboot.
