Yes there is a limit
Do you get
"message from server - This computer has reached a limit on tasks in progress"
coz I do .
I think it depends on how many cpu`s are in use .

Then I found https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration, which has instructions on excluding a GPU. I pasted the text to avoid typos, and this is my cc_config.xml:
cc_config>
<options>
<exclude_gpu>
<url>http://asteroidsathome.net/boinc/</url>
<url>http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/</url>
<url>https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/</url>
<url>http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/</url>
<url>https://universeathome.pl/universe/</url>
<url>http://www.cosmologyathome.org/</url>
</exclude_gpu>
</options>
</cc_config>

Guess what? stdoutdae.txt now shows this:
Unrecognized tag in cc_config.xml: <exclude_gpu>

How do I proceed?

I think you may need to add the word <options> so , above I have . see wot happens .
This is one I used some years ago on other project , other than that I don't know
<cc_config>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
<exclude_gpu>
<url>https://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz</url>
<device_num>0</device_num>
</exclude_gpu>
<exclude_gpu>

<device_num>1</device_num>
</exclude_gpu>
</options>

Max # jobs - is for project = Limit on "Tasks in progress" possibly per computer
Max # CPUs - is for each work unit

This is great to know! I tested it, and I was wrong about "Max # CPUs".
It was discovered not long after cam2docker started that VB goes mental if more than 8 cpu`s are used and many tasks have errors for no good reason , unless you are lucky .

It's great to know that "Max # CPUs" is needed to fix this and fixes this so nicely!
Is this more-than-8-CPU bug true for VB in general (that is, not just for Cosmology@home)? Maybe it's just for CERTAIN VirtualBox situations??
https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=87445&start=15

From reading the posts on VB and the linked bug trak , that is the kind of stuff that waz happening here on cosmo when CB2D started , so several upto 8 core tasks ran a lot faster than one `big` one ,
if it ran at all .

Pah! I'm doing a job in 3 minutes on an i5-8600K, and 4 at once in 6 minutes on a Ryzen 9 3900XT. I SHALL PREVAIL!!!!

Yup , the opteron iz little faster than an Athlon XP3200 in single threaded crunching [benchmarks] ,
I know this coz mine only died last year crunching Einstein {I don't like chucking stuff if it still workz}
Hopteron is / waz a cheap webserver cpu in its day , but crap at math .
It waz a cheep system {ebay parts} when I got it , I soon found out why .

Max # jobs - 8 { 1<8 or "No Limit" = 300 ish } I did`nt count them
Max # CPUs - 6 {1<8 - don't use "No Limit" }

should have a 24 core system - 4 "running" work units and - 4 "ready to start"
And no need for an "app config" file .

7 cpu`s takes 10<11 minit on my opteron16

A new problem has risen, I am seeing this post in the 'Event Log' !
3/6/2022 8:17:36 AM | Cosmology@Home | [error] exceeded limit of 800 slot directories
Also in this project on the same computer, any one else seeing this?
3/6/2022 8:17:36 AM | Moo! Wrapper | [error] exceeded limit of 800 slot directories
Been Crunching 21 years and this is new for me !!

One idea I had , you may have a build up of dead VMs
Have a look in virtual box itself for zombie virtual machines that have become unreachable
click on the desktop icon for virtual box , green is ok , red is dead , and delete them .

"Max cpu`s 4" is as far as it can go

Also you can set "Max # of jobs for this project" in "Preferences for this project" on "Your account" page
The setting there has a max of up to 8 work units per computer
This also stops " max concurrent" being a pain ,
It is a known bug in boinc and as you now know it generates a work unit bomb, DONT USE IT.
You can also set the "Max # of CPUs for this project" per work unit
So with a 20 core cpu and if you set it for 8 you should get two work units using 16 cores total
Or set it for 6 and have 3 work units using 6 cores each, total 18 etc.
The rest is `Do the math` :-)

is that because of your team/group setup ?

And after giving them a shove, some produce computation errors.

Is this the same three that will or will not run rosetta python.
or is virtual blox giving you a new set of problems?

The project's administrators should configure the project to use no more than 8 vCPUs per task to work around this bug.

This can be done .
Go to your `Account` look in `Project Preferences` and select the number of CPUs to use there.
If you want to run multiple work units at a time divide the number of cpu/threads to match.
You can also select the maximum number of jobs `Max#Jobs` same as `tasks in progress` limit.

Threre are many crunchers that have problems like this with vbox across many different projects
and no one has a full fix for it
I see you have a 12 core cpu
vbox was found to have problems with using more than 8 cpus when cosmo started using it
so you don't get berid in workunits , set 8 for that as well
Max # jobs - 8 {is the same as `tasks in progress` on `tasks` page}
Max # CPUs - 8

There is a quick way to find out if you have a pc with xp os on it
Just install boinc if its not already there and attach to project and see what happens
It will need to have plenty of memory to run CAM
