However, just recently we purchased a brand, spanking new version of the Intel Fortran Compiler for Windows, so we should be moving along nicely!

Schould give us a little better performance too - at least on Intel cpus...

If so, you also need a Linux version. :)

I agree! Cross-project stats parity in BOINC is unattainable, and projects should stop wasting time and effort chasing it.

Whow..
If we're not yet able to fully reach a goal - let's dump the whole thing!

You can't stop people from competing with each other, it's human nature!
Giving out credits and beeing able to compare with others is a main part of the whole BOINC thing. How many will still do the crunching if no credits are granted? 40%? 50%?
If every project has it's own credit system, many will go to the project paying the most credits - that can't be good for science.

ugh! they can show up as user of the day but I think there's a fix for it. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/changeset/13567
correct me if I'm wrong those of you (well, lets face it that's most of you!) more knowledgeable than me :)

UOTD is one thing, but they should not show up at all!
Other projects have the same problem...

LOL NO! Right now it is a fortran program with a Boinc windows wrapper around it. Thats why the checkpoints are internal to the program and not displayed in Boinc and no progress bar. By stand alone I meant a windows version totally integrated with Boinc.

OK, "stand alone" doesn't mean the same everywhere... :)

Using a wrapper isn't neccessarily the cause for not having a progress bar - look at Riesel.

I'm not a programmer, I just wonder if it might be easier to improve the wrapper so it passes the status on to boinc?

At this point in the project Scott's main focus is to get a stand alone version of windows camb to work and that very well may solve many of the HR issues.

Ahmm, does that 'stand alone' mean without BOINC?

hmm... do we need the "bad guy took 500 wus and didn't crunch them" - discussion in every project?
The cache-mechanism is there to keep the rigs runnin' even if the project is down some days - some projects need that...

If this is a problem at all (I don't think so!) it belongs to the boinc forum.

The only thing to do for project admins is to lower the deadline of the wus.
With a 5 day deadline nobody will hold a 20 day cache. If so, the wus can be resent after 5 days and the user - if he ever comes back - gets a lot of 'cancelled by server'.

Yep, isnĀ“t it cool... :(

Even the Turion64/win ran dry now.

Time to start the Splitter (or whatever the work-creation-task is called)....

ahh i see. i don't exactly recall turning off the computer but it certainly is possible.

If you got another project running on that machine, the switching from one project to another can be cause for the restarts...

From the stderr_out it looks to me like the result got restarted severeral times.

The current app (correct me if I'm wrong) only hands over the last running time, so the result probably took longer to crunch than it seems.

Just tested this. Made a bookmark of the link. Closed Mozilla.
Restarted Mozilla, clicked the link in the bookmark, main page will open up wide.
Extra step that's needed is going to the forums.

Clicking the link will always transport you to the main page at http://www.cosmologyathome.org/index.php, be it in wide or narrow view. Depends on how many times you clicked it. If you start from the link after just opening your browser, it opens up in wide view.

Just what I said...
Having the page opened in wide mode, go to another page (without closing Mozilla), then click your bookmark again - and - see the page in narrow mode. :)

You can bookmark http://www.cosmologyathome.org/index.php?changewidth=true, but too bad it jumps to the main page index. So it would still take the extra step to then go to the forums.

That won't work 'cause it depends on your browser-session beeing closed or not.
If you don't close the session and click the bookmark again it will be narrow.

Hi Ben,

as a Seti-cruncher I just wondered if Dr. Kevin Douglas works on GALFA and SETHI are also used/helpful to check/verify what we calculate here?

I doug out a post of Kevin on a galaxie at high velocity...
Velocity is one point we're interested in here also, right?

Do we use any data from Arecibo here?
