Since there is new life, there is an opportunity to get word out quickly. Here is how. A lot of crunchers are badge hunters. Many of us add them to our signatures at each project we participate in. When others see new badges pop up, they get curious as to where they came from. When they find out Cosmology@home has created a badge, it will alert them that the project has new life and new potential. This will reach beyond these threads here at the project and easily spread to almost all BOINC threads as many of the badge hunters reside all over. Thoughts on the idea? ![]() |

+1 It will also encourage users to stay and reach the next badge level. ![]() ![]() |

Hi Coleslaw, we think this is a great idea. In fact we have a C@H'er named Mark who has volunteered to work on exactly this and work is already in progress. I don't know enough to say when things might be ready, I can say with some certainty that it won't be until the server upgrade. Maybe Mark will chime in with more. |

Any news or update about Cosmology Badges? Unfortunately nothing. I've lost touch with Mark so I don't know that that will progress. Certainly if there are any graphic designers here that want to help design some, please get in contact! |

Any news or update about Cosmology Badges? For me this is a little sad as that is now my number one reason to pick and run BOINC Projects. ![]() Crunching@EVGA The Number One Team in the BOINC Community. Folding@EVGA The Number One Team in the Folding@Home Community. |

Any news or update about Cosmology Badges? For me as well. Have 6 cores to throw at this but: VBox overhead + CreditNew + no badges = No way. ![]() ![]() |

Any news or update about Cosmology Badges? Yea, that's completely understandable. I would encourage you to think about "VBox overhead" in a positive way though. Yes, it is a slightly less efficient use of your processors in terms of raw FLOPS. But in terms of science, because developing VBox apps (or in our case, Docker apps running inside VBox) is infinitely easier and faster than native apps, the VBox projects are likely doing the most cutting edge, relevant-today, type work. For example, with us, it took basically one day to prepare the code for the Planck jobs (our latest app) to run at C@H, despite being probably one of the most complex set of dependencies of any app on any BOINC project. The fact that we can do this so quickly means we can always take the most important scientific questions to us *right now* and run them on here, and that's what your computers are helping us calculate. I think this far out-weights the small speed penalty of VBox. In any case, I share your dissatisfaction with CreditNew (the Planck jobs just fyi don't do CreditNew, btw, and we'll have a few more of them despite them being out at the moment). And we'll see what we can do about badges to hopefully win a few more of you over. |

Hi all - Very interesting idea. Just as a spontaneous thought - can we crowd source this? As my contribution here is a list of ideas for badge names - loosely orderd from the nearby and more familiar to the more exotic or distant. Moon Planet Star Neutron Star Black Hole Star cluster Dwarf galaxy Galaxy Galaxy Cluster Filament Wall Void Quasars Baryons Neutrinos Dark Matter Dark Energy Gravitational Lensing Cosmic Microwave Background Temperature Cosmic Microwave Background Polarization Big Bang The Universe Yes, I know I'm mixing a lot of things, from elementary particles to astronomical observables, but they are all important for cosmology (even the moon, for example some important constraints on gravity come from precision lunar ranging), so why not? There are of course many other things I could have put on, but I've limited the list to things/concepts that we know exist or must be there in some form or another. I also did not include theories etc... or names of famous cosmologists... So if we took this as given, maybe some of the more graphically talented amongst you can have a go at submitting artwork (watch the format, there seems to be a conventional size for the badges etc... but I'm not the expert on that, so please ask the others writing in this thread.) No badges Yet ? I first asked in June 2013 I think there has been enough time. It only takes a bit of interest from the admins to get it working. You can always ask some of the other projects that currently do have badges for assistance. http://signature.statseb.fr/ for help. Hope to see them soon. ![]() |

Badges would certainly help retain some of the new users you're going to see over the next 2 weeks! ![]() ![]() |

Well it has been another six months and the question is begging to be asked. Has there been any movement in implementing a set of Badges for this Project ? At least 27 other fine projects have them. And they are a positive form of feedback for users who commit their time and machines to science and not coins. Thanks Bill F ![]() |
