Time left is going up, no progress... please advice Tech support?? . . . who are they ? ? Your computers are hidden so we dont know what they are. first problem for a new member is often the large amount of RAM that cosmo uses, Allow AT LEAST 1GB per core to be safe running cosmo on its own. if you run other boinc projects as well, then you need more and more and . . . . I used to run everything including seti@home classic in 512MB and have lots to spare, Cosmo is a different kind of crunching. |

Thanks, I didn't know there wasn't any tech support and am not really a new user. I've been using Seti@home since 1993, however this is a new project for me. I have 50% of my computer (which has over 200gbs) going towards BOINC. If it doesn't work for Cosmo, so be it. I'm not an IT guy so what can I say. Doing the best I can with the resources I don't have. Let 'em ride. Time left is going up, no progress... please advice |

As soon as I attach to your project, BOINC Manager starts malfunctioning ... repeatedly disconnecting/reconnecting to localhost, preventing any work from being done. I tried clearing BOINC program data, re-installing BOINC and re-attaching to all projects; same thing happened again. Operating system: Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Thank you - Eric H. |

I had the exact same thing happen to me as the above user. I manually removed all the cosmology@home project data files from the boinc Data directory (the entire folder from the projects directory and every xml file one level up) and then re-attached to cosmology@home and that seems to have fixed the problem for now. The only odd thing I saw was that one of the tasks kept trying to re-download an ini file because mine was zero bytes in size. After that the boinc manager would continuously disconnect from the client after a few seconds. Bad WU perhaps? OS:Windows XP Pro 64 bit |

Same thing happened to me with BOINC version 6.6.38. Other users have been experiencing this problem with other ;-) flaky projects such as Sztaki and the Lattice Project. What seems to be happening is that bad workunits are crashing Boinc.exe. What worked for me was to install an earler version of BOINC (6.4.7). This allows the problem to clear. After that, I re-installed 6.6.38, and that is working so far. I restarted my machine on each change of version. Don't know if that's strictly necessary, but better safe than sorry... ![]() |

Tried to setup my community preferences and got the following: It's another thing that's been broken since the server crash in March/April. I had hopes when Ben posted a week ago, and perhaps it is still too early to say anything too negative again, considering he is having to do catching up, but I am starting to get the feeling that nothing has really changed. There is an admin position posted for the project, but at $15/hr it's going to be tough to find someone of good caliber for what has been requested. $15/hr is bottom-end developer pay, typically still considered "trainee" or "junior"... Add to that requesting FORTRAN experience as well as Linux admin and knowledge of BOINC code...is a stretch for $15. Better starting pay considering what is being requested, even for students / university jobs, would be around $20-$25/hr... ![]() |

The problem is with the Cosmology server-side software setup. There is nothing you can do on your side to correct this issue. Just abort any transfers that fail like this and keep trying until a task downloads. Eventually you'll get some... ![]() |

Slight problem with downloading new work. It goes to request a new task, but then gives up on downloading in mere seconds, and then fails. 11/19/2009 2:15:53 AM Cosmology@Home Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. It's saying the file isn't found, I'm presuming on the server itself, in order to be downloaded to the client. This happened twice before I NNT'd it to prevent my allowable queue from falling to it. |

The failed downloads problem has been ongoing for a long time, It affects everyone there is nothing us crunchers can do about it, other than abort them if they get stuck. And the cosmo staff have still not corrected it, whatever the problem is. |
