Message 5400 - Posted: 22 Mar 2008, 13:55:05 UTC - in response to Message 5379.

Warning
New WUs are 3 - 5 times shorter than previous ones. This is good for credit hunters but I am not sure whether is it good for the project. Further there is substantial increase in WUs where quorum of 2 tasks is not enough to decide which one is correct.

It reminds me the situation in Einstein project approx. 1 year ago when thanks to optimisation the calculation shortened to the extent where servers were unable to deal with flood of finished WUs.

I think that a lot of credit hunters are joined to MilkyWay@home project :)

Only some are that short, I am now getting a lot now that are 3 to 4 hours or so in length, which is getting back to previous times.

I am seeing this on almost every machine I have checked - has been happening almost all day long from what I can tell. Getting backed up in crunched work ..

>>> Have found that the longer ones are all Reissued Work Units, as noted in another thread.

Still getting the same problem. Don\'t know if it is a network issue or a database issue - but it is getting worse.
I have hundreds of WU\'s crunched and waiting to report, best I can do is suspend the project until issue is corrected.

Would sombody please look into the continuing problems at cosmo. There has been little or no improvement since monday and wu\'s are becoming increasingly hard to download.

A quick look at the last 2 days posts in the Urgent Problems Discussion thread will give you some idea of the situation.

Good.

Now it may be a good time to at least enable reporting WUs.

Not really. Homepage says:
The database activity has finally gone down to an acceptable level, so we\'ve restarted the project daemons.

So, it took 2 days to settle down? How long it will takes when we have a new and massive wave of reports and downloads?

EDIT: Results in progress - 0. Well, no reports of finished work?

While the announcements say that most of the site is up and running, and the server status page shows the upload/download and db are up, when my clients contact the server, they still receive a message that says, \"The project is shut down for maintenance.\"

Just wanted to verify this...

I just woke up, so I\'m going to head back to the department right now and work on it some more. Should be fully up later on today.

Hi Scott!

On both my Linux 64 bit hosts I get the message that CAMB is not available for my type of computer... Could you please have a look at what´s wrong with the server?

I know this message only from an alpha project that uses the coprocessor support - therefore I have to use BOINC 6.x.x clients on those computer, maybe this is what confuses the server?

Thanks!
Stefan

Whatever you did, it\'s a little bit better now. Now I got -

I have 4 Linux Box\'s running & all 4 a Days + work on them, but I\'m using 5.10.45 ... I was running the 6.x.x Client on my Windows Box\'s & I got work for them though.

I switched them all back to 5.10.45 too because somebody in another Project accused anybody of using that Client as Cheating because it gives a little higher Benchmark ... Weird

Yea, actually I could swich back the Xeon dual Quad from 6.1.17 to 5.10.45, because I can only use the other Linux box for the coprocessor testing, but I think BOINC 6.x.x clients will be the recommended clients very soon, so it would maybe a good idea to fix this error... ;)

As for the overclaiming - I haven\'t noticed higher benchmarks with BOINC 6, and actually I don\'t really watch them because most of the projects I crunch for use fixed credits... Maybe they meant Crunch3r´s 6.0.1 - this one is sure overclaiming...

-Edit- Just got work on both boxes... :)
