Hi everyone - Just to throw an idea out there: wouldn't it be nice to have Cosmology@Home represented on wikipedia? Any volunteers? Ben Creator of Cosmology@Home |

That would mean a lot.Actually I myself have been attracted to a number of dc projects thanks to wikipedia itself. Having a c@h article would provide only benefits. If there is a way to help ,let me know |

Yes, this would be a great idea! I'm willing to help, too, though I've no idea how it works... |

As far as I know the author/maintainer of the work/project can't write the wiki page (done so they won't glorify it) so someone needs to write/submit it for them. |

Always wanted to write something for Wikipedia... Just don't think my English is good enougth for it - but I'm ready to give it a try at wikipedia.de! We just need "At least one published source for your information, such as a URL or a book title and author" Ben's welcome Letter is a good start, but we need some dates, history, founding, pubications, ... all the stuff that makes a good article and is not to be found here... Ben...? mic. ![]() |

Hi - As far as I know the author/maintainer of the work/project can't write the wiki page (done so they won't glorify it) so someone needs to write/submit it for them. Yes, I didn't want to start the page for the reasons you stated above but if someone has a go at putting one together, our team here, including me, would of course be happy to edit/update it and fill in missing information. All the best, Ben Creator of Cosmology@Home |

There is an empty entry for it already at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BOINC All one may need to do is populate it. |

So after some back and forth there is now an article on Cosmology@Home in wikipedia. After one of the participants here created an article and just posted my letter to users in it, the article was deleted almost instantaneously because the format of my letter was really not appropriate for an article in an encyclopedia. I have re-written the letter to make it more suitable, but it is now being contested again. You can help by improving it. Feel free to go and contribute. All the best, Ben Creator of Cosmology@Home |

It's been deleted again. Perhaps there's just someone sitting there watching for new content who then kills it. It makes them feel superior. Anyone who has a Pirates@Home registration can make a page on the Glossary, clean it up etc. before copying it over to Wikipedia. |

It's been deleted again. Perhaps there's just someone sitting there watching for new content who then kills it. It makes them feel superior. IIRC, Wikipedia is sort of in flux right now. A lot of articles are being deleted that aren't considered notable for whatever reason. According to the deletion logs, that's why it was removed the first time. It was deleted today because the letter constitutes an advertisement. If anything is going to be on the Wikipedia page, it needs to be strictly factual, written from a neutral POV, and it needs to explain why C@H is important. From the rules: No indication of importance/significance. An article about a real person, group of people, band, club, company, organisation, or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from questions of notability, verifiability and reliability of sources. If controversial, list the article at Articles for deletion instead. If anything is going to be on the Wikipedia page, it needs to be strictly factual, written from a neutral POV, and it needs to explain why C@H is important. So we really need someone else out there to write an article for wikipedia that satisfies the requirements that Scott copied above. If I do it they will assume I am biased (my account name is very easily identifiable...). But whoever writes the article, keep a copy of it somewhere after you post it, because when they delete it it's gone. It took only a few minutes for one of the admins to tag it for "speedy deletion" and even though I contested that assessment and argued for keeping it on the talk page, it was then deleted within about 20 minutes... I put up a basic framework of what the entry could look like... I'm pretty sure it adheres to the Wikipedia guidelines, but I'm not a frequent editor there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmology%40Home In case someone gets trigger happy with the delete button again, I also copied it to my page which was empty before. Might as well put it to use ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Soriak edit: obviously anyone should feel free to edit this and add more content (which it direly needs) - for the time being it may be safest to copy all changes to my user page, too, so we have a backup. Once the main article is safely established, we can get rid of the backup copy again ;) edit2: added the Cosmology@Home logo under the fair use clause for non-public images. (logos of computer software) Hope that's ok :p |

I put up a basic framework of what the entry could look like... I\'m pretty sure it adheres to the Wikipedia guidelines, but I\'m not a frequent editor there. The current Wiki page looks good, I added a few things, but I think we need to get links *from* other entries to the Cosmology@home entry. I tried looking at the \"cosmology\" and \"cosmic background radiation\" entry in the Wiki with the hopes of finding a good spot to put a link, but it\'s a bit above my head. |

Is anyone take a long view to expand the wikipedia article in other languages? |
