Finally taking the leap and voting with my feet. Enough of these WUs, with their wasted time, that reset far back from lack of enough check pointing. Oh, and lest we forget the lack of communication around here it looks like project admin left a long time ago.

I miss it too. Just another one of those forever broken things on this project.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function gd_info() in /home/boincadm/projects/cosmohome/html/inc/image.inc on line 23

Because cosmo checkpoints seem to be far apart make shure
that `Leave applications in memory when suspended` is ticked for `yes`
otherwise you will loose work after a checkpoint restart.
Its one possible fix for the problem.

Now there's one way to max out your memory quickly.

When I get these DL errors I just ignore them. They just report back by themselves as a DL error anyway. If you manually abort them it shows as aborted by user. Since the staff seem to have taken a permanent vacation this problem may never be fixed. So just set and forget - less stress.

Considering how increasing large the memory reqs of workunits can get I'd recommend having 2GB of memory per WU running.

I've seen this many times before. If I recall correctly that 60% mark is a checkpoint. So for whatever reason your WU stopped and restarted it continued from there. Increased checkpointing would fix this issue.

Anshul has left the project. Ben is currenly seeking a new person to take over as administrator. Until then, the planned improvements and new cosmology research for this project will have to wait.

Another good reason to keep Cosmo as a BACKUP project.

something going on?

Perhaps having no work is their solution to the memory requirement problem.

Cosmo seems to have a long checkpoint time so and it may be that
if you do not have `keep wu in memory` set to `yes` this may explain it getting stuck If other projects on the pc compleat ok,
but this means even with 4gb you may run out of ram.

I have 4GB and running 2 cosmo units I'm typically at 73% memory usage. So leaving them sit in memory isn't an option for me.

Another very powerful backlight is the cosmic microwave background! It really comes from the edge of the observable Universe so anything that absorbs or modifies it at any time in between t~400,000 yrs and now (t=13.7 billion years) leaves an imprint.

When speaking of 'illumination' I'm assuming you mean visible light. Is visible light modified in this way or are you talking about non-visible wavelengths? (Be sure to give examples.)

I've read somewhere here that the workunits checkpoint every 2 hours. So rebooting will cause a work loss of up to 2 hours.
