Weeeeeeeel, let\'s see here. I\'d really like to get on with life, so:

Killed BOINC manager. Made backup of client_state.xml. Edited same.
I find several URL entries that already have www.cosmologyathome.org, so I guess they\'re OK.

There is NO entry titled <scheduler_url>. Really? Yes. So, what to do?

There are MANY entries with the old .edu URL. Do they all need to be changed? Notepad has this neat \"Replace All\" feature.

What to do? What to do? Only got a half dozen finished WU\'s.
Maybe just flush \'em and move on?
I await without.

It happens. I\'ve got one box that throws out one of these every 2-3 days. Just changed out the RAM & waiting to see if that fixed it.

6) Forums : Wish list : When will the project have a screensaver (Message 4310)
Posted 20 Dec 2007 by Paratima
Post:
Having a screen saver is a bad idea, if WU\'s are assigned to SS machines for HR confirmation. If the server doesn\'t know whether a user is using full BOINC or an SS, then it will assign WU\'s at random.

Picture the hard core crunchers waiting for HR verification from machines that run the SS for an hour a day on a 200MHz Pentium. Not good.

If you must have a screen saver, then build in a mechanism to segregate WU\'s from the rest of the population. Otherwise, leave SS\'s to the projects like SETI and Einstein.

IT WORKS! IT WORKS!

Nice job.

Ummm, would it be too much to ask that we build on previous success and increase the frequency of the updates? It seems to be updating about 4 times a day, though I haven\'t actually clocked it. Could we go for maybe, every 3 hours?

The 3rd-party stats are how we tell how well our machines are performing. Currently, we can tell that they\'re running, but not much more. Most of the stats machines check for updates hourly, so we\'ll get more information as soon as it\'s available. Thanks.

Ben, thanks for the response. As to the gravity issue, I am excited about MOND and the TeVeS extensions. I think that is the way forward, even if it doesn\'t entirely satisfy Occam\'s Razor. I don\'t believe Newton had the whole picture.

I am no scientist by a long shot, just an amateur enthusiast who likes playing with computers. Thinking about this stuff makes my head hurt, so I just crunch the numbers and let you guys do the heavy lifting.

Keep up the good work!

I believe that \"dark matter\" is the name we have given to our ignorance of the laws of gravity. I am convinced that those laws are considerably more complex than has been recognized and look forward to the day when this dark matter is illuminated (pun intended).

Ditto \"dark energy\".

The moderator, Ageless, recommended this test:

OCCT

Supposedly, if it will run this without errors, it\'s clean. Not sure if that\'s true, but it does put CPU, RAM, etc. through the wringer.

I\'ve tested it. Safe to run, even with scary web site. :D

On the main Cosmohome page, \"Top Participants\", \"Top Computers\" and \"Top Teams\" all have HTML errors addressing PHP arguments.

On Top Participants, the first page is OK, but as soon as you try to go to \"Next 20\" or do a sort by \"Total Credit\", the errors pop up.

Should be a quick fix. Looks like some permissions got lost or something got moved.

Ah, new server, same software scripts. Time for Scott to \"kick\" the WU Generator (or whatever magic he does) again. The number of WUs in progress has dropped > 2000 in the last several hours, so there are some starving systems out there.

Parsing error. I think you meant to say:

The number of WUs in progress has dropped < 2000 in the last several hours, so there are some starving systems out there.

Maybe somebody needs to go into the forest and goose the elves?

And by the way, it looks like the project clock may be wrong.
