It's been over a year and many of us still cannot edit our community preferences because we get a database error when we try, in FF, IE and in Chrome.

Database Error

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/boincadm/projects/cosmohome/html/inc/db_conn.inc:44) in /home/boincadm/projects/cosmohome/html/user/edit_forum_preferences_action.php on line 168

I have no problems with the project itself - seems to work fine but surely, somewhere in that institution, is someone with knowledge on how to fix a website's woes?
I will have to monitor this as I can't turn on email notifcations.

Faik said in another thread, that they are actually searching for a competent webguy.
I guess, such a search was not possible while the project was not funded.

Hello "Ex_Brit",

What Dennis said is true. We are currently in the process of searching for a competent web administrator. We do acknowledge that there have been problems and we do appreciate very much the patience and support that our valued community members have extended to us. Hopefully, this issue will be resolved soon. At the same time, I do hope that members of our community will continue to inform us about the problems they are facing. Till we could recruit someone to exclusively work on these issues, we could try to resolve them with whatever resources we have.

Best wishes,

Faik

Maybe it could be an idea to get this work done by a sponsoring company.
I am not very familiar with companies and i do not like the most interests of Google, Amazon and so on (f.e.), but maybe it could be useful to write some nice E-Mails to some of these business people.

This idea is based on following thoughts:
- The "own" webguy could becomes a problem when the actual funding (by NASA) runs out (if it ever runs out). If we should ever fall back again in times, when this project has to be run in (near) automatic mode, it could be useful when the webwork is organized in a special (close) relationship with a sponsor, not depending of the projects own etat.

Just an idea, without any deeper thought of mine.

Thank you guys. I shall endeavour to be patient....!

Meanwhile of course I had forgotten about this and, until I can alter my community preferences accordingly, had no idea you had replied.

Sorry for my delayed response.

Hello Dennis,

I am intrigued by your sponsor idea. I was not aware of it before. Thank you very much for bringing it to our attention. We certainly need to look into it further.

Hello Ex-Brit,

Thank you very much for your understanding. This sort of project has its pros and cons. We could not have come this far without the unwavering support and enthusiasm of our valued community members. Hopefully, once we have found a competent system administrator, things will go even smoother.

Best,

Faik

I've found a newsgroup - misc.jobs.offered - that might be a suitable place to offer a web administrator position, but only if you know how to use newsgroups. NOT available through Google Groups.

It appears to be a moderated newsgroup, with the moderator changing all posts enough to temporarily hide who posted them in the first place. Therefore, don't expect your post to be visible before the moderator approves it.

Unlike many of the busier newsgroups, this one appears to be spam-free; that may be because it is not reachable through Google Groups. Google Groups appears to be the place where around 99% of the world's newsgroups spam is posted.

Another newsgroup that might be suitable - sci.astro.research. Not normally used for posting jobs, so you may need to make it very clear that the job is related to astronomy research.
