I just had a ton of work canceled by the server. Why did it happen?

I do see that, that's odd. I think its affecting a couple of other people as well, I'm looking into it. I will grant the people this has affected the credit.

Can you tell me in more detail how exactly you're bunkering? Did you just turn off network access for the machine in question? Or are you doing anything else like running multiple clients on it, etc...?

(Fyi there's some discussion of this problem on the BOINC mailing list here too)

I am running multiple clients. I find it easier to control the uploads and still be able to get more work and visit the website.

I grabbed some work on several clients and shut of networking. They were crunching fine. Several hours later I turned networking on to upload the WUProp task and all the tasks suddenly aborted. vbox and legacy. That includes the ones that were crunching OK prior to allowing network access and ones that hadn't started yet. Happened to at least two clients. I have done the same thing twice since then to see if my work has been wasted but they did not abort.

None of my other tasks have aborted since after releasing the work done so far.

mmonnin, are you disabling your network adapter or are you disabling network transfer from within the clients themselves?

And these were Linux boxes right?

Disabled network transfer for BOINC in the client.

Yes, Linux Mint.

As you create a new client, it gets the hostid of another existing client. When and if project server finds out the client is different, all its tasks get cancelled and a new hostid is assigned. You should always start to download your bunker after this differentiation has been done.

What is the deadline for these tasks? It says over 2 weeks but I just had over 30 tasks canceled after a week.

I just lost a ton of work as the sever sent out my WUs again to someone else and canceled mine. I've got another set of units like this.

Thanks for that update. If you read the thread I linked, I think almost definitely the problem had been caused by running multiple clients on one machine. Good to hear that it seems to be fine now.

As for your the other problem with tasks being completed by other users, I though we had fixed that, let me look into it...

The email distribution link? I signed up and got the last two replies a few days ago. Those same clients returned successful work later w/o any changes. The same ones that later had aborted tasks cause they were sent to someone else. It wasn't purely caused by setting up multiple clients. Luigi's explanation fits better but these clients have returned work for this and other projects.
