I am running Lubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit (4.4.0-53-generic kernel)on my old PC and to better use it I installed BOINC on it using the apt-get method and it gave me the 7.6.31 boinc version. I also wanted to run VM applications on it and hence I downloaded and installed virtualbox from the oracle's site ver#5.1.10 with the extension pack. Now when I add Cosmology@home i receive an error stating that virtualbox is not installed.
I don't know how to resolve this as I have tried every method posted on troubleshooting forums.

Note: This error did not come when I was running 32-bit version of the same OS on the same PC

Hi Clark, sorry for the difficulties. I see indeed on your account when you had the 32-bit OS VBox was correctly recognized but now it is not. What is the error message you are getting exactly?

Ah, I see now that unfortunately that computer doesn't support the virtualization features needed to run the Docker jobs ("VT-x", see more here). This means you'll only be able to run the legacy jobs on this machine.

But when I had the 32bit OS I received wus from vLHC@home and were running too. Can't see how not having vt-x enabled CPU affect Boinc's ability to see virtualbox's installation

The OS inside the VM's for our Docker jobs is 64bit and you need VT-x to run 64bit virtual machines. The jobs you were getting from vLHC must have been the 32bit ones (plan class called "vbox32"), for which you don't need VT-x. We can't offer a 32bit version because Docker requires 64bit.

Thanks for the clarification which explains why I won't get cosmology wus for VM but still can't figure out why doesn't boinc "see" my virtualbox installation. Maybe the boinc client is looking at the wrong place for the installation of virtualbox or you suggest me installing 32 bit boinc client and virtualbox?
How to make boinc and virtualbox combo run on my current installation?
