Ben you have fixed the uploads but now there is nothing to download.
Can you please check the work generator?

Also Boinc Synergy new Project of the Month is Cosmology, so they will need lots of work units, as do we all.

Ok, good. Time to catch a couple of hours of sleep... :)

BTW, let\'s go back to posting the problems here and having the discussions on the Discussion thread. That way it\'ll be easier to see if there are new problems.

Happy crunching...

Message 4394 - Posted: 3 Jan 2008, 14:54:58 UTC

I can connect to Cosmo but can not download the executable. Happening on two seperate machines (XP & XP64), Boinc 5.10.30

Here\'s the messages I repeatedly get:
1/3/2008 7:00:50 AM|Cosmology@Home|Started download of camb_2.04_windows_intelx86.exe
1/3/2008 7:06:18 AM||Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
1/3/2008 7:06:18 AM|Cosmology@Home|Temporarily failed download of camb_2.04_windows_intelx86.exe: http error
1/3/2008 7:06:18 AM|Cosmology@Home|Backing off 1 hr 57 min 52 sec on download of camb_2.04_windows_intelx86.exe
1/3/2008 7:06:19 AM||Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down.

I can connect to other projects just fine. Is my ISP blocking download of the exe? Or something else?

Thanks!

Make absolutely sure that BOINC (boinc.exe) is allowed to communicate through your firewall on TCP port 80. The HTTP Error you get is BOINC\'s way of saying \"I connected to the server, sent the request and got no response\".

Port 80 is open.
I\'ve got approx. 74% of the file, I just get a few bytes then it quits and retries in a while, gets a few more bytes and quits. Same behavior on both machines.

OK, please exit BOINC.
Now, navigate to your BOINC directory and make a file called cc_config.xml
You can do so with Notepad and save it as an All files file, so it doesn\'t get the .txt extension.

In it, add the following tags and flags:

<cc_config>
<log_flags>
<task>1</task>
<file_xfer>1</file_xfer>
<sched_ops>1</sched_ops>
<file_xfer_debug>1</file_xfer_debug>
<http_debug>1</http_debug>
<work_fetch_debug>1</work_fetch_debug>
<http_xfer_debug>1</http_xfer_debug>
</log_flags>
</cc_config>

Make sure those are saved in cc_config.xml and that it doesn\'t have an extra .txt extension, else edit the filename before you restart BOINC.

While still in your BOINC directory, rename the file stdoutdae.txt to stdoutdae.xxx (or any other extension that\'s not .txt).

Restart BOINC.

Let it run for a couple of minutes while trying to download the application.

Exit BOINC.

Open your newly created stdoutdea.txt file and copy all contents from it and post it here in an answer window. If it is too big (over 2KB), which it easily can be, then please email the whole file to me. I\'ll PM you my email address.

OK, thanks for your stdoutdae.txt file. Something weird there.
For a comparison, I reset Cosmo (didn\'t have work anyway) and got it to download work with the same flags on.

Your download is failing almost immediately. I\'m still banking on a possible firewall problem, not necessarily the software firewall, but the hardware firewall in the router you use (if you use one?).

I\'ll run this one by one of the BOINC developers, ask him what possibly causes this to happen.

To keep you up to date, Stuart, Rom is a bit out of ideas as well. We\'re now asking David Anderson. ;-)

After running several CAMB 2.09 tasks overnight, I found my linux x64 box this morning with memory filled up (2GB, normally 2 CAMB tasks use around 600MB) and therefore swapping. I had nothing else running, so I assume there must a be a memory leaking problem in 2.09 !

What I found with the 2.09ers is that they seem to doing such excessive checkpointing (HD writes are quasi-continuous) that my box (C2D E6700) spends more time writing to disk than doing actual crunching. Maybe if time permits this should be looked into too ;-)

Kind regards

Hi I\'m having the same problem constant writing to disc and app running slowly due to this. It\'s crashed two of my rigs and some wu\'s are failing.

Hi, Pentium 4E HT procesors are muli-core (used in entry level servers). These where the fore runners to the Dual core processors we see now.

V2.09 has issues on my machine which runs the above processor as you can see it keeps restarting the same wu, see below:

Maybe best to abort the 2.09 WU and see if 2.11 solves the problem for you.
