Message 7283 - Posted: 15 Sep 2008, 22:21:08 UTC
Last modified: 15 Sep 2008, 22:22:36 UTC

Just to clarify, my resource share is set to 100 which means 6.5%, 6.7%, and 7.4% (all numbers are actually low in that I have NNT on each machine for several projects and some projects in the mixes are not {or rarely} issuing work; Ex: pPot, Virtual Prairie, LHC).

I run up to 30 projects per machine, shares 100, 50, 25, 10 with most projects getting 10 and 25 share (~1-2%)

All 3 machines have 4 cores or 4 VM executing. (one 8 core Power Mac but CaH does not run there so it is not relevant) All machines running XP Pro with SP3 ...

The messages I was getting were the HR class, work avail for everyone but your machine ...

In the past I did not have this situation. Most of the time I had plenty of Cosmology work with intermittent outages of one sort of another.

At the moment I am getting \"test\" tasks, but I cannot see a single \"regular\" task on any of the the three machines running.

I don\'t know exactly when this problem started, but it is reasonably recent as a rather permanent situation. I mean, in the past it happened off and on, but now, it seems rather constant.

In that this is one of my \"priority\" projects it is mildly distressing.

I am not complaining, merely reporting. If the project is not interested in solving the problem I am getting plenty of work from the other 60 projects running. Cosmology\'s loss, not mine.

Anyway ...

{Edit}Note: QMC is share 50 on those same machines. Do the math if you look at my sig, Cosmology should be RAC 500 or more{/edit}

Message 7287 - Posted: 16 Sep 2008, 20:38:08 UTC - in response to Message 7283.

Well I just got a new computer and I have not been able to do any work at all because whenever it tries to get work I get the \"there was work but it was committed to other platforms\" message. I got an XPS 630I, it is a Intel core 2 duo E8400 at 3.00 Ghz, 306Mhz with Vista Home Premium. Anyone have a clue why work is not coming my way with this new system?

Thanks,
Philip Olson

I am fairly sure the answer to your problem lies within this (rather long) thread. Start at oldest entry and work your way forward in time....

We as fellow testers do not know the real answer to your question, only the project staff (where are they?) can answer that.

But in the interim what you can do to get some work is to go to your account (the new black one not the older white one), and set your preferences to accept \"test\" work units.

I did this and have been able to get quite a bit of work for both Linux and Windows.
The front page news has a message about what credit is awarded for the test work.

Catch ya later.

It has been weeks for me ... no work ...

I sure wish they would fix the cursed servers ...

Hi guys, Just letting you know if you set your prefrences to accept TEST WU
you will happily start cooking your cpu\'s again. For how long who knows and
for what credit who cares as long as were crunching something.
I detached from this project in july for the lack of work and the lack of
answers as to why?? So here Im back and nothing has really changed much..
Damn Shame as im interested in the science not the credit........

Cheers Glenn

Well, I have gotten LHC work ... so, life is not all bad.

QMC, Spinhenge, and Milkyway also have been providing plenty of work too ... oh well ...

I have been working on slightly over 50 projects as they allow ...

Sadly, many can\'t seem to keep their acts in order (and this is sadly one of them) heck, ReiselSeive has been off-line since July 13 ... I still have work done in my lists ... Tanpaku also has been off-line too ...

I\'m sorry to say it\'s \"status quo\" here.
I\'ll leave my setting at \"no new work\" and check back next week.

Message 7304 - Posted: 21 Sep 2008, 6:28:13 UTC

These messages briefly appeared on Friday and there have been some more instances in the last eight hours on my machines. There is still test work to be had as they don\'t last for long (4 or 5 requests) then new test units then get downloaded. The number of units to send remains at over 90,000 over 10,000 higher than the last count of main only units noticed some weeks ago, indicating there is still a good supply of test units.

I\'m not sure why these messages are appearing now - maybe the HR pool of test units for Windows was running low and the server wasn\'t able to get more from the unallocated pool in time. Just a guess.

A note from the admins as to which cpu types - operating system - colour of socks,
they are short of to even up the HR types would help us help them,
We have got the kit they need,
Just tell us what is needed and someone will get active on cosmo to fill this HR type.

There used to be a page, long time ago, that described the hr types and worunits available (I think it was on cosmo?) can we have it back, whatever.

If so, stick it on the bottom of the server status page. . C

Stefano,

If you\'re seeing that message continually then you probably need to go into your Cosmology@Home preferences and enable \"Run test applications\". I\'m not positive, but I think my Athlon XP 2500+ is not having any trouble getting test work.

No problem. I assume eventually they will have \"production\" work available again, but for now, they\'re trying to test changes to the server that will allow it. Hence only test work is currently available.

My Athlon64/XP Pro SP3 system picked up 1 task, then went to the other platforms message twice in a row now... DOH! Make that 4 times in a row now...

Hi!
I have been participating for over 7 months. For more than three weeks now my platform has not received any work.
Is there a problem at my end? If so, is there anything I can do about it?
If not, is this a temporary or permanent situation? If permanent, and I am not to receive further work, please notify me so I may reassign the allocated time (I\'d prefer not to, in light of the importance of the project).
Thank you for your (anticipated) reply.

Little Cloud -Most of us are in the same boat as you....that is not getting new work. Your resources are not being affected at all by this, only your long term debt,so when work starts flowing again your host(s) will be doing nothing but Cosmology for quite awhile.

Anshul was just appointed as new administrator for the project. Please give him some time to get a grasp of the problems and then to fix them.

Thanks for your continued patience.
