If you browse through the forum, you will find that sysfried has been very helpful in these early stages of the project.

Did I mention sysfried's name? No, I said "some people"...

Fixed.

I was waiting for all of the other WUs to finish so I could implement some changes to the validator and WU template.

and again... we've run dry...

I guess it was me fetching the last wus this morning.... it said 31 wus left and i fetched them all... :-)

Sysfried, isn't that being a bit greedy! getting one or two at a time should be sufficient for any user unles you have a slow internett connection (dialup).

Greedy? Hmm... I guess not. I had a host which was not crunching at all and that host fetched the maximum of wus it could get (50 would be the limit)... while there were only 31 left... it fetched them within 5 min time... 2 units at a time..

Is it my fault?

should I disconnect my hosts now, so others have more work left?

When there's work, I'll allow my hosts to get it. I have machines running linux, windows32 and windows64.... Intel and AMD cpus... what more could a alpha project want than a big variety of hardware and software?

btw, I had connection problems all weekend long, so I couldn't crunch a bit during the weekend (well, my hosts had some SIMAP wus, so I didn't really run dry)... but I'm sure there was work during the weekend which was left for other people to crunch.

Besides, if I remember correctly, Scott is creating wus that don't yet really have a result. He's generating work to see if work and how work is done. In my opinion, it's ok that this project doesn't always have work available.

And I agree with the opinion that this is a really cool project...

best wishes

Sysfried

I'm guessing that over the weekend our machines don't have that nasty work stuff to do and can therefore devote more time to Boincing, so we've crunched more WUs than Scott had planned for. He seems to be back in the office now as I've just picked up 6 WUs.

The work being sent out is *real* in that CAMB is taking real input files and producing real output. However, we won't start actually *using* the data until we're sure that it's accurate enough and that there aren't any significant problems with the output.

Even Scott deserves a day off once in a while. (Just don't let it happen again :) )

Me thinks this is the temporary norm ...the stop and go ...til they get all the pieces in place.... we get to 0 ready to send and the bandwagon gets jumped on... I want new work too but give em a break...after all its alpha, not production.I also think he knows the queue is empty :) But I do admire the unbridled enthusiasm here ;)

Oh man, give us a break. 8h30 UTC and still 14000 work units in the queue. We'll never be able to finish them before it's morning in the US :p

Hey, this is a project in alpha or beta status. better just to crunch what's necessary and not useless excess WUs just to keep us happy.
If Scott knows everything about the recent batch, and has to do some more adjustments to get the next batch done, I'll be fine to wait some more (and creditwise this is the best project I ever crunched, so I will "loose" from a pause).

Imho especially in such alpha or beta projects there should not be too much WUs, as long as they are not productive, i.e. deliver some new insights. Whether these insights are scientific in the field of science to be studied or "just" numeric, i.e. flaws and optimisation possibilities are explored, is secondary.

Such a can of WORMS I opened. 8-(
I realize that Sysfried and many other have contributed greatly to the progess of this project. I have done nothing but crunch when WU\'s were available. I was just comenting on the fact that when there are a sparse number of WU\'s available, that having a large queue set does not help in the diversity of Hardware and Software testing that takes place. I meant no disrespect to any person that is participating in this or any project. If you look me up you will see that I crunch for as many projects as I can, Alpha, Beta and production.

Cosmology is in BETA, and I hope will soon be in production to produce useful data for the science that I am interested in. Credits be damed!

I welcome any forum or personal communication that comes.

just before anyone asks...

yeah, \'no new work\'

We\'ve run out of workunits. So, you all will be seeing this.

Also see the \"Server Status\" page under: unsent units --> 0

Is there still any work. All I get is this message. I run Xubuntu hardy

There is work however we are in a state that the server will not send out any work because of the way homogeneous redundancy is currently set up on the server...the problem is being worked on but don\'t expect a quick solution.

...... I have received a couple of non-test WUs through. I know that this has been said before (perhaps too often) but I\'d rather they take the time to sort out the issues rather than re-launch prematurely with a fanfare and then re-disappoint. All in all, the largely invisible and non-communicated work which is taking place fills me with more confidence than the cowboy, knee-jerk reaction based decisions that seem to have backfired previously.

As a volunteer, I also appreciate that Ben isn\'t firing off misplaced judgements on how well the project is performing to rile us further!! However, I\'d be happy to hear how wonderful it is; when it is!

Now if the Project Staff could just be persuaded to work with the Moderators, I think world peace would be just around the corner!!!!

I\'d be pleased to hear any news at all from the project team; good, bad or just to acknowledge that they have an interest in keeping volunteers available for the work ahead.

I still have hope for keeping this project in my list.
