Team recruitments via PM are not approved by the administrator of this project, nor are they really liked that much by the community as a whole.

This makes twice in recent memory that I\'ve been \"hit up\" over here by someone from SETI.USA in PM.

I have read all of the rules and find nothing that states it is not approved. Nor do I find any posting stating it is prohibited. Treat it like any other PM, if you do not like it then put the person on ignore.

Read Brian\'s old thread on this subject, specifically this post by Jeff and this post by Scott.

Definitive post from Scott

You shouldn\'t be receiving any PM solicitations to join a team. If you do, please send me or one of the mods a PM and we will talk with the sender.

I have not identified who this person is to Scott or to the one Moderator who has contacted me in PM thus far. I didn\'t post which team it was the last time, but it was indeed SETI.USA last time as well. Someone else, who will remain nameless as well, contacted me via PM that time and we had a good discussion about it, and the past, and it was their statement at the time that:

I will let them know that this type of recruiting is not being looked at in a good way.
Sometimes members of the team get out of hand and acting as missionaries.

Thanks for understanding.

That was from someone within your team, fairly \"high up\", as it were...

The thread by Scott Forum Rules and Guidelines clearly states:

PMs
- Don\'t send PMs asking users to join a team. This will be considered spam and will be dealt with accordingly

Can some one suggest a better way to recruit members to your team if they are in fact runnings a number of projects for the same US Navy team but omitted the Cosmology project because they didn\'t know we had a team in this project?

If I find one of the US Navy team members assigned to this project but not listed on a team I have sent a PM. I have limited myself to a few messages at one time.

Another use of the PM system is to advise all team members of the \'Project of the Month\". This in-it-self is good for the projects. Most teams do not have an active web page to do this.

Personally, I wouldn\'t object to that as you are technically part of the team already.

The PM I received was from someone who I know knows of me and knows that I am not affliated with any team on any project and should certainly know that I\'m not on their team by looking at their membership data.

Two completely different scenarios...
