PM use/abuse - Team Recruitment solicitations

I received a PM here asking me to join a team. Not going to mention what team this solicitation was from, but I will say that I already had a low opinion of the team in question. IMO, teams should not recruit via Private Messages. To do so is equivalent to SPAM.

I mentioned that already to the mods and Scott a couple of months ago and have gotten 2 Recruitment PM\'s since then. The one received today from the same team (SETI.USA) I sent to Scott last mo. which showed me that I would have to put the person on the \"blocked list\" to stop the spam.

Scott has asked teams not to solicit recruitments via PM. I think team captains need to take some responsibility for their members actions. This is not welcomed behaviour and is against the rules as a reminder. |

This is not welcomed behaviour and is against the rules as a reminder. As I said, I already had a low opinion of the team in question, so it didn\'t really surprise me... As for the team captains taking action, that would be swell, but in this case it wouldn\'t happen... (that\'s my low opinion of the team kicking in there)... I don\'t belong to a team and have no interest in joining any team for the simple reason of \"street cred\". When I post an opinionated viewpoint, it reflects upon me and only me. If I were part of a team, then people may already have formed opinions about the team that may cause my opinions to be seen as how the entire team felt and/or may be viewed negatively just because I am a member of a team which the person doesn\'t particularly care for... Perhaps I could make a suggestion to the BOINC developers to include a \"Report as SPAM\" function for PMs... Dunno...

Perhaps I could make a suggestion to the BOINC developers to include a \"Report as SPAM\" function for PMs... Dunno... Other than to put the person on ignore, there\'s nothing the developers can do against this. Reporting as SPAM on a PM goes against the privacy of both parties, as it has to be sent to a moderator. You can just as well forward the thing to a moderator then and tell him who did it. |

You shouldn\'t be receiving any PM solicitations to join a team. If you do, please send me or one of the mods a PM and we will talk with the sender. I\'m content with the action that\'s gone on in my PMs after posting this message for now, but future contacts via PM, I\'ll be sending on the information to you or one of the other mods... Thanks! Scott, maybe it would be best to add to the posting rules that PM\'s are not to be used for team recruitment. Otherwise, for all the new members and teams, it is impossible to know that PM\'s are not to be use for this. In some projects it doesn\'t seem to be a problem, in others it is. I have posted a message in our message board concerning this. I have also messaged the people from my team that I think are doing this. I hope this helps curtail this from my team. Should there be further problems please don\'t hesitate to PM me and let me know. Thanks for understanding. |
