Just tested this. Made a bookmark of the link. Closed Mozilla.
Restarted Mozilla, clicked the link in the bookmark, main page will open up wide.
Extra step that's needed is going to the forums.

Clicking the link will always transport you to the main page at http://www.cosmologyathome.org/index.php, be it in wide or narrow view. Depends on how many times you clicked it. If you start from the link after just opening your browser, it opens up in wide view.

Just what I said...
Having the page opened in wide mode, go to another page (without closing Mozilla), then click your bookmark again - and - see the page in narrow mode. :)

With regard to the page width issue...

I fully intend on implementing cookies or a project preference for the wide/narrow screen. However, my priority right now is to get the stand-alone windows app working (and to ensure that the project is running smoothly). For now, we'll have to make do with the current implementation.

No disagreement there! :)

OK, links are difficult to see when the post ends on the lime-green (??) background. See my post here for an example. Not that they are too visible on the other background either.

Message 2907 - Posted: 23 Sep 2007, 12:53:12 UTC - in response to Message 2834.

When clicking on "join" or "returning participants", "ben wandelt" gets in the way and you can't see the whole drop down boxes.
Does "ben wandelt" belong on the same line as "join"? If so then the screen needs to be wider or the page adjusted.

I am using Fedora Core 3 Linux with Firefox as the browser on an AMD Opteron 285.

On my screen it reads Join Returning Participants Community Statistics all separated by vertical lines.
Across on the right shows the Cosmology symbol.
Under all this is a thick black line right across the screen.
Directly under the Join link is a Ben Wandelt link.
If I click in the join link or the returning participants link, the drop down boxes are covered by the ben wandelt link and you can't see the options.

This might be linked to screen size/resolution as mine shows just fine, no overlapping on any drop down menu or anything else for that matter. I run a 22" widescreen @ 1680 x 1050, this is why I said screen size/resolution may be a factor.

I have read posts on other fora from people who are partially color blind in some areas of the spectrum. I'm not one of those so I have no experience on this matter. I wonder if these pastel greens and reds (so they appear on my screen) are suitable for people who have difficulty seeing colors? Just something to consider, I thought.

I have the same problems with IE6.The drop downs are all jumbled and overlaid on each other because the page size is at least twice as big length and width as b4 on old webpage. The width change option has no effect.

Hi -

Have those of you who see the menu bar wrapped tried to make the font size smaller (on most browsers this can be done quickly by pressing Ctrl and -)

One way to fix this would be to go back from using CSS to JavaScript with images instead of text, but a lot of people complained about that in the first test implementation and people wouldn't have the option of changing the font size on the fly.

Sorry for the delay getting back, tried to make a graphics change and not being very good at Linux I killed my machine and it has taken 12 hours for me to learn how to fix it. Steep learning curve but I got there.
Resolution is 800x600. Screen width thingy does not change my view.

EDIT: @ Ben, yes that does work and gets you back on the top line.
The only problem with that is it looks like now I HAVE to go get the glasses I have been putting off getting. Them's the brakes.

Ben the problem with making the font size smaller is that it makes all other web pages so small you can't read them.

Went +4 on the 22" and still worked ok. ?????????
Vista and FF2

Ah,,,on a 15" monitor You ca only + twice or it overlays the layout, I had that problem on a website I host, I'll check to see how we got around that and get back to ya.

Ok IE6 now displays right . Somehow a local setting for the page got changed to largest font from the server where every other web page stayed normal.Resetting the default size on Cosmology pages reloads automatically "normal" size now.

Another way if you insist on keeping 2 identical menus (header & left side) is to make the two top frames one .jpg and just map the link text to the dropdown menu that way the header stays the same size and the rest (everything below the black line) will increase/decrease as now . Increasing the text size in the header image will also help those that need glasses.

Hummm, on bringing the site up thru IE, the resizing works ok so it must be an issue with FF.

Why can't this annoying page-width thing be made "sticky"? Or simply sized to fill the full width of the user's monitor?

It's a real PITA to have to keep clicking the "Change Page Width" option, not to mention that you get dumped back to the Home page every time.

Stupid.

While it worked, I found that it only applies for that one session. I can't seem to find a way to fix it for all times so I will just put up with it. It is not causing a hassle.
