Message 2841 - Posted: 19 Sep 2007, 6:49:24 UTC - in response to Message 2837.

Just curious but the wallpapers with the 3 spheres on it, do they represent anything? I see one looks like a universe and the other is Cosmo but what does the green one represent?

P.S. Sorry I do not use them only because my wife thinks I am wierd for doing BOINC projects. Women. (They can't all be like you Kathryn) :)

the green one looks like a representation of the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation.

PS. if there was a wallpaper like a dark gray or black background and a graphic like the centre or righthand side of the banner on http://cosmos.astro.uiuc.edu/ and the C@H logo I would probably use it.

A nit: This is the Announcements forum. Not the Discussions forum.

Threads should be locked so discussion about the Announcements happens elsewhere.

Some of us subscribe to announce forums or threads, expecting low-volume, high-signal. Allowing discussion defeats that.

Discussions are necessary, and need a place. Just not here.

LOL. I'm not your typical woman. That's for sure.

I'm using the one with the gray background on my Fedora box. Trying to decide if I want to switch away from the Astronomy Pic of the Day I've got in Vista.

I think Scott and Benjamin asked for comments? That is my recollection, but no problem if they wish to move the discussion/comments/feedback to another thread. :)

This thread is made for discussion, so feel free to post comments in here. If I don't want discussion, then I'll lock the thread.

Also, I added an option to change the page width to nearly full-screen. Click the link titled "Change Page Width" under the "returning participants" category, located on the index page or the nav bar.

For those who think that the font is too small, I suggest setting the minimum font size in your browser to a comfortable level. That will help out with not only this site, but every site that chooses to use a small font.

Works nicely, Thank you.

I took that change down for a bit just now until I can make sure that it's not screwing up IE6. It'll be back up later on today.

First of all: Big congrats on this outstanding new design! I really like it very much! **thumbs up** :-)

Also, I added an option to change the page width to nearly full-screen. Click the link titled "Change Page Width" under the "returning participants" category, located on the index page or the nav bar...

Hmm, I don't find that "page width option", did you remove it again? *scratches head*
Lovely greetings, Cori

Hmm, I don't know if it's intentional or not, but the invitation code does not appear anymore on the "join_alpha" accept link

Thanks for the new look, Scott (and ppl behind ;)The "change width" button works great, BTW

Now just to be picky- Can we make that a preference (store it in a cookie or something), so we don't have to change it every visit?

Now that would be 100% perfect. ;-) And it looks very nice now with my big lappy screen resolution. THX!! :-)

.../index.php?width=narrow

so we can bookmark it.

so we can bookmark it.

You can bookmark http://www.cosmologyathome.org/index.php?changewidth=true, but too bad it jumps to the main page index. So it would still take the extra step to then go to the forums.

That won't work 'cause it depends on your browser-session beeing closed or not.
If you don't close the session and click the bookmark again it will be narrow.

Just tested this. Made a bookmark of the link. Closed Mozilla.
Restarted Mozilla, clicked the link in the bookmark, main page will open up wide.
Extra step that's needed is going to the forums.

Clicking the link will always transport you to the main page at http://www.cosmologyathome.org/index.php, be it in wide or narrow view. Depends on how many times you clicked it. If you start from the link after just opening your browser, it opens up in wide view.

I bookmark this site directly at the forum index, so I can see if there are any new messages right off, which is what I come to this site for:

http://www.cosmologyathome.org/forum_index.php

This means that, if I see new messages, I need to navigate back to the home page, change the width, then navigate back to the forums to read the new messages.

The smallest one represents the visible part of the Universe filled with galaxies and clusters of galaxies.

The larger one represents the edge of the visible Universe, the place from which the cosmic microwave background reaches us.

And Cosmology@Home is all-encompassing (of course! :) ) so its sphere is larger still!

Ben
