Ok ...Is the strategy working? I am getting no new work on my C2D xeon...the P4's don't need work yet...server status says about 6600 to send....are we getting to the unmatched problem children now? (note:this is a pre-planned event referenced in other posts)

What next Scott ...new work if you can rig it releasing to the starving platforms only? Or just no new work for a while? [edit]I try to use older posts if relatively on subject to not jam up the forum unless they get too long[edit]

My Pending Credit hasn't really dropped at all since the No New Work Experiment started. I still have the same 9 Unsent Wu's that I had at the beginning & the same 3 Wu's that 2 Results have been turned in on already but are still Pending.

My Quads haven't received any new work for the last 7-8 hours so I'm assuming thats all their going to get for now, I still have about 6-8 Wu's on each of them though.

If the theory is right, the "no work" messages probably mean that what's left in the queue is work that has already been sent at least one time before. It might be interesting to see which platforms are still getting work, and if some more of these types can be brought in to the drain the queue asap.

I currently run a Xeon/Linux64, a D/Windows and a PIII/Windows. These are still getting work.

Hi...
My P4 is still recieving WUs as usual (just got one at 9:52 UTC)
However, my laptop (another P4) has been answered by that annoying *no work from project* message... which is a bit strange

Host Status:

Intel P4-D/Windows: Getting work
Intel P4/Windows: Getting work
Intel P4/Linux: Getting work
AMD xx00+ x2/Linux (3): Getting work

Pending Status:
08/22/2007 14:00 UTC, 19886 Ready To Send : 433 WUs, 11,420 credits pending.
08/23/2007 12:00 UTC, 15663 Ready To Send : 440 WUs, 11,641 credits pending.
08/24/2007 12:44 UTC, 10490 Ready To Send : 453 WUs, 12,046 credits pending.
08/25/2007 09:26 UTC, 6388 Ready To Send : 436 WUs, 11,618 credits pending.

PS- I am starting to see a lot of "older" WUs starting to run (over 2 weeks old) on my machines, that is a good sign that unsents are getting assigned.

Note: (rough estimate based on observations) we have been reducing the RTS queue by an average of about 200 WUs/hour, if that trend continues it will take another 31.5 hours to "drain the swamp".

I'm not getting work on my Win32 Athlon X2.

What I think is happening now.... The scheduler can't send out the "unsent" workunits due to some reason. That's the reason why we all have so many pending workunits. Scott will have to find out why the so far "unsent" workunits aren't being sent out right now....

This is quite interesting for me... ATA... :-)

Have a lovely weekend everyone...

Greetings from Stuttgart (Germany)

I've got a "hunch" that once things run down some, Scott will find a scheduler bug that only shows up (or is noticed) in small projects running homogeneous redundancy. We had only 450 some users when Scott started the run-down (up over 650 now), and who knows how many were inactive. On a large project with 10s of thousands of hosts the problem might not be obvious. Once the queue runs down, I think Scott will be able to look at the scheduler logs and try to determine why decisions were being made on which WU to send where. With 20K+ WUs in the queue I think there would be too much data to make much sense of anything. I'm curious to see what has been happening at any rate.

No work from project.

Why not?

Looks like we need to upgrade the points from 50 to 60 to compensate :)

I'm still getting work. It looks like my pending has gone down slightly. And my pending for my Intel dual-core had gotten a bunch of wingmen for the WUs. However my AMD Athlon XP 2400 is still flying solo on most of its pending WUs.

As long as the few people that wanted No New Work Created have plenty of Work (Which it seems they have) is all that matters. You can always run QMC or Riesel Sieve where you'll get about 20% more Credit than here anyway, so all's not lost ... :)

Why Sysfried? You seem to be a quorum of one wanting to downgrade the points allowance.

Dear vaughan.

I think it wouldn't make sense to get a compensation in terms of credits to handle times without workunits.

BOINC and the projects that are using the platform should not start a contest on where you get more credits for the same work done. This project is in alpha stage, so a time without workunits should not need to be compensated.

I've been attracted by projects that grant more credits for the same time spent on my cpu, but this is wrong if you ask me. I'm speaking for myself here.

50 credits per wu are just fine at the moment, no need to compensate here.

If you think differently, well, I don't have a problem with that. You posted your opinion and I replied with mine.

Have a great weekend,

Sysfried

Pending Status:
08/25/2007 15:14 UTC
Project has 6081 Ready To Send
429 WUs pending, 11,551 credits pending.

Note- Of the 429 Pending, 385 are Linux. My Windows machines are running their caches out (not gettting new WUs).
Linux Pendings (major offenders):
93 Xeon 5150
95 ADM 6000+x2
72 ADM 5600+x2
60 ADM 4200+x2
53 Intel 3.0 GHz P4

It seems from the postings like the Windows users are getting caught up (no new work) and the Linux users are still getting work/have pendings? It that an accurate statement?
