Run! Get out while you still can. You should see the rest of us after a few projects. Red eyes, shaking hands holding a plastic cup of coffee. Full ashtrays spilling over on the desk, into the keyboard and on the floor. Stacks of empty pizza boxes. And then there are the nights. Waking up crying ten times a night, after yet another nightmare about a work unit that crashed. It's no life... it's no life...

Kidding. Welcome to the ATA crew.

You forgot checking the forums in the middle of the night to make sure a new app version wasn't released while your eyes were closed.

Oh yes, and the compulsive checking of message logs and results pages to track down the last little error.

:)

Yes. Welcome to ATA. I think our theme song should be "Hotel California".

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
’relax,’ said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!

Woo-hoo, thanks Kathryn! Now we have an ATA anthem! *LOL*

And I just remembered other possible ATA nightmares... who doesn't know the headaches of a broken computer, OS problems or network connections not working??!

*Biiiiig grin*

What, get up in the night?

When you are a member of ATA you never get to sleep.

LOL.

Spotted over at Seti...

Matt: "BOINC Emergency Hotline, this is Matt speaking. Please state the nature of your BOINC emergency."

Caller: "Yeah, Hi. I'm running a BOINC project and all these goofy people with funny avatars and strange names keep posting music videos and starting threads about being the last person to post!"

Matt: "Ah yeah, you've got BOINCers. Pretty normal."

Caller: "But this is a new project! We just opened for registration 15 minutes ago and we have 20 teams and 150 accounts already!"

Matt: "OH! You've been infested by the ATA, that's Alpha Testers Anonymous. They're tough to get rid of. Have you tried running error free? They get bored with no problems to fix and usually move on. OR crash your database so the accounts and teams get wiped out! That sometimes works!"

Caller: "Yeah I've tried both and they keep finding us! It's all "Nice to see you!", "I win!", "Click here for my favourite song!, "Join this Team!", Ahhhh! It's enough to drive a scientist nuts! Can't we ban them or something?"

Matt: "They tried that at Predictor, I wouldn't recommend it. I'm afraid you are going to have to put up with them. Kinda like bees in a garden, they do the important work but leave 'em alone or they might sting ya! Hahahahahaha! Hope this helps you!"

Caller: "Yeah, Thanks alot pal! Stoopid tech support ....... CLICK!"

Matt: "AHHHHHH! Another satisfied customer! NEXT!!! BOINC Emergency Hotline, this is Matt speaking. Please state the nature of your BOINC emer......"

Not me. I linked to the original post.

I only read at Seti in case I get a help desk email. I don't crunch for them and haven't in a very long time.

I pre-alpha test for a living. My soul now lives in an unmapped Tahitian chain island, soliced by a (predictably) offshore trust fund and a hashed pseudonym. If I'm lucky, someday it'll buy me a beer.
